For artist Patrick van Riemsdijk (b. 1986, Utrecht, the Netherlands), solitude is not a bad thing. Nor, in fact, is it lonely. It is a moment and an opportunity to grab hold of inspiration, to nurture it, to bring it into the world.

Colour is at the core of the painter’s work, but texture, too, plays a crucial role. Van Riemsdijk’s paintings, while soft and subtle, hold great power. He lives and works on the Spanish island of Mallorca but gathers ideas wherever he goes.

Inspiration is always at the ready for artist Patrick van Riemsdijk. From stones in Japan to the warm, ruddy hues of the local landscape to his own personal history, anything can be the start of a painting. A childhood spent in a family of artists is the root of his creative direction. His brush? A channel for his emotions and innermost thoughts.
